Abstract

Rationale, aims and objectives: There is a schism between clinicians and researchers in the field of psychotherapy. Psychotherapists who are exclusively clinical tend to have limited access to international journals, which, in turn, are deeply valued by academics. Thus, psychotherapy clinical trials are mainly published in international journals, a fact which only widens the gap between clinicians and researchers. The aim of this study was to review all psychotherapy clinical trials published in Brazil over the last 10 years.

Method: The keywords "psychotherapy" and "clinical trial" were used to conduct the search on the following databases: Capes, PubMed and SciELO.

Results: 22 results were found, of which 17 were excluded for not actually being clinical trials. The remaining 5 were analyzed regarding tested intervention, study population, sample size, composition of control group, randomization and blinding, inclusion, exclusion and improvement criteria, biases and main findings.

Conclusion: The predominance of behavioral interventions is noticeable and symptoms of social anxiety and samples of adults prevailed in the studies found. We stress the importance of publications in the field of psychotherapy. Also deemed important is the need to widen the range of existing psychopathologies and age groups being assessed in studies of this kind.
